Nekai is the smallest and poorest of the Korannon nations. The vast majority of the nation’s wealth is located in Southharbor, which is also the capital. Outside of the capital, the citizenry has organized somewhat into a series of tight-knit communities. The dangers of the wilds and poverty of the nation has forced the poor to band together into local militia. Smuggling is rife throughout the area, with goods being moved into Lyr, or bypassing the high tolls of the Southharbor docks. Profits from smuggling go to supply the local denizens with the food and supplies necessary to survive. Piracy is somewhat rampant across the eastern shores, with the small raiding sloops slipping from narrow inlets to snatch valuables from the ships crossing the Korannon Sea. The tight-knit family ties of the Nekai people have led to a culture of loans and barter between families, with most coin being used only for transactions with outsiders.
