Dendra is ruled by a gathering of nobles, meeting essentially as a large committee. All of the nobility present are allowed to vote on all issues, and any of the nobility have the right to postpone the final vote for more discussion. The end result is that few national resolutions are passed, and most of the local nobles rule with a somewhat free hand. There is very little open conflict between the nobles, but also little open cooperation. Political maneuvering is seen as necessary to accomplishing anything, but most is conducted fairly honestly. Rarely is land gain seen as the most important goal. More often, adjacent provinces and their nobles are attempting to improve their economic status. While provincial loyalty is seen as a close personal tie, people still identify themselves as Dendran. After the war with Vallatia lost them their river access 150 years ago, the nation has lost most of its foreign leverage, and currently does little but produce crops and problems. Currently, Sir Richard is the Viscount in charge of Liestra; Lord Victor is the Count of Kenmoor, and the Duchy of Rodai is ruled by a new Duchess bearing the arms of a golden sword on a red field.
